I'm very happy with this painting. It is a bit of a departure from my usual use of ink and acrylic but I think it is always good to try new things.
![]() Today I finished a painting that I'm calling "Thaw". This painting was done on a black canvas that I then covered with Prussian Blue (one of my favourite blues). I've spent the last week in Sun Peaks watching the snow melt and run in little streams down the road. The grass is starting to show through on the edges of the snow and I though I could hurry the melt along in a painting. I'm very happy with this painting. It is a bit of a departure from my usual use of ink and acrylic but I think it is always good to try new things.

![]() I am done now with watercolours for a while. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Watercolour is a difficult medium for me and I will have to say that I used it well but have not yet mastered it. Struggling with what to start week 12 with. I'm thinking of working on eyes... just because it is challenging. I think I'm having problems coming up with ideas because my mind is focused on the painting I am working on right now and I want to only work on it. I learned a good lesson this past week which is that I am not the kind of artist that can work on 2 or more paintings at the same time. I tried this because I had 2 ideas. What happens is that I seem to be unable to split my focus. I couldn't start painting the one that I had sketched out because I kept thinking about the other canvas that I had covered with black gesso but had an unsuccessful sketch on it. I'm also finding that this time of year is a difficult time to paint for me. There is still a lot of snow on the ground which is melting and then freezing overnight. This makes walking on the trails a bit treacherous. I'm missing my snowshoeing and getting in touch with nature. Looking forward to seeing some flowers. ![]() Today is the last day of week 10 - Watercolour and Ink. I've enjoyed doing these so much and I have found that I am remembering some of my watercolour lessons. So.... I'm trying to decide whether or not to do a 3rd week of these. Would appreciate some input if anyone is out there. I'm back at Sun Peaks and looking forward to doing some more painting. We still have a lot of snow here but it is melting and I am hoping the creek behind my place melts soon so I can do some painting there. I'm looking forward to more spring weather and to hearing the creek outside my windows. I have a lot of things on the go in the upcoming months. A show at Miocene at the end of the month. Farmer's market at Sun Peaks in the summer months, and I've also applied for a booth at the big Art in the Park day in Kamloops.... July 1st. Oh yes..... and also art walk in Williams Lake is coming up in August. Wow..... suddenly, I'm feeling a little tired (not really)... ![]() Only 3 more days until my first show. I feel like I have a split personality between extreme excitement, calm, and extreme anxiety. I dropped off my paintings yesterday and had a chance to finally see the current exhibit which was beautiful. I think that is when some of the doubts started.... I noticed that these artists had frames around all of their paintings. Some of them had little notes beside each painting describing the inspiration for each painting. Their displays looked very professional. This was not something I had considered at all. I started to feel nervous about my show not being professional enough..... but.... then I decided that again, this will be a learning experience for me, and that it is going to be just fine. I think that choosing to learn from experiences is the best way to handle things. In a way... it encourages to you to accept yourself, and I believe that accepting yourself is a very good thing. Aside from the excitement of the show.... I have finished the week of watercolour and ink. I enjoyed it so much that I am going to do another week of it. I also sold one of my watercolour paintings to a lovely woman from Courtenay, BC. She is buying the Sunflowers. I will attach a picture of it below. I am glad it is going to a good home where it will be making someone happy. |
