An Artist's Statement is something that is often required when you are showing work, or submitting work for a show. I think it is a way for people who view your work to connect with you.... to find out who you are and perhaps where you are coming from. I believe that these statements evolve over time. I believe mine is also starting to evolve.
Right now it is pretty simple .... in a nutshell, I enjoy what I do immensely and hope that it brings happiness to others....
HOWEVER....
I've noticed a tendency recently to paint a small piece of the underground into my work .... I LOVE THIS!! It is incredibly satisfying for me to include a peek at what we don't see, in my paintings.

So .... i think back to the very first painting I ever sold... and what I was thinking when I was painting it. It was all about what you don't see... or what is un-noticed. If you look at what's going on in the sky.... nobody sees it... their heads are all bent down. This was important to me ..... to notice. To point out what we are too busy to see..... to point out that we are too busy... to see.
So .... because I am compelled to add what we can't always see into my paintings... i wonder at times if my statement should change a bit to reflect my desire to slow the world down.... to be absolutely present.... and to show in my work what is usually unseen.
As usual .... my paintings teach me about myself. Kind of a cool thing.
