So my challenge this week to myself was to create a painting using only 30 strokes. I had all kinds of ideas and pictures in my head but getting them only the canvas was quite a challenge. My work definitely improved from day 1 of this challenge to day 7. I think one of the lessons I learned was to take my time, put more thought into the painting, and plan it out. It seems this is a lesson that I am learning over and over.
The other discovery I made was the wonders of black gesso. On about day 3, I decided to do a painting on a canvas I had covered with black gesso. This was wonderful. It gives you lines in your painting that truly enhance the work. I'm looking forward to using this more, and to re-painting some of the work I did this week on a larger canvas.
My challenge next week will be painting fruit…. any kind of fruit and any way. As I write this, true to form, all kinds of fruits are floating through my head and I am painting them in different styles, colours and arrangements…. it is going to be hard to focus on snowshoeing today.
